Metal only. The figures above are the gold itself, before the making charge, hallmarking and tax that apply to a finished piece. What you pay at the counter for a ring or a chain is this number multiplied by the weight, plus the making charge on that specific item. We will show you the breakdown line by line.
The world price is quoted in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1035 grams) for pure gold. To get from there to a gram of 21K in Egypt:
gram of 21K (EGP) = ounce ($) ÷ 31.1035 × 0.875 × USD/EGP rate
In practice the whole chain collapses into a single local factor that we publish with each report. At current levels that factor is about 1.462 — multiply the dollar ounce price by 1.462 and you are within a few pounds of the 21K gram here.
The exchange rate used in the local gold market is not always the official bank rate, which is why we publish the observed factor rather than a theoretical one.
