Where the open call stands

We are not calling this right yet. The weekly forecast settles on the Friday 25 September close, and four sessions remain.

One session is not evidence. If the week closes above $4,420 we will write “we were wrong” in the same place, on Saturday.

The week ending Friday 25 September

Published before the week opened, against a Kitco survey that came back 16 bullish out of 16 — the most one-sided reading of this cycle.

45%Range-bound, consolidating
$4,300 – $4,420 · requires no new catalyst at all
35%Rally continues
$4,420 – $4,540 · needs fresh buying; the 200-day average at $4,541 is the ceiling
20%Pullback
$4,200 – $4,300 · needs a catalyst: an October hike confirmed, or crude turning back up

What would prove us wrong: a daily close above $4,450 with the US 10-year yield below 4.90%. That was published with the forecast, not added afterwards.

Levels that change the picture

LevelWhat it is
$4,541200-day moving average — the ceiling nobody has cleared in months
$4,432–4,445Near-term resistance
$4,401Friday’s high
$4,320100-day moving average — the support that matters
$4,300Floor of the range-bound band

A daily close above $4,450 with yields under 4.90% confirms the bullish case. A break of $4,320 says the advance was position-covering and nothing more.

What that means for a gram in Suez

Local prices track the international ounce through the EGP rate. At the moment the conversion factor between the ounce in dollars and a gram of 21K in Egyptian pounds is roughly 1.462, so our published range for 21K at the end of this week is EGP 6,140–6,637, most likely EGP 6,286–6,461 if the currency stays where it is.
